Aj awoke slowly, not sure where she was. The last thing she remembered was taking care of Thaf, then strange people barging in and... Well, she couldn't remember that much, even though it might help her remember where she was or how she got there. Her mind suddenly stopped. Thoughts stopped coming. Her mind was blank, but then the memories came rushing back like the waves of an ocean. She felt something push her as the thoughts came back, but soon found out it was from the force of her memories returning. The strange men had grabbed her and then grabbed Thaf, who was still unconscious from poison, and dragged them into a castle, then deep underground. They threw her into a cell, but she hit her head on the floor and blacked out.
She pushed herself up off of the floor, realizing the floor was very hard, which was odd.
"Aj?" She heard someone say from somewhere around her. Her eyes refused to focus due to the dark, but she recognized the voice.
"Drak?" She stood up, her legs sore from the walk to get there. "Where are you, dear?"
"Next cell over. I should be to your left." Aj walked slowly up to the cold iron bars of the cell. She went where the bars met the wall to her left and pulled a dagger out of her hoodie pocket. The blade was rather reflective, more like a mirror, but that's what Aj needed. The bars were so close together you would barely get your hand through. She slipped the blade and her hand through the bars and tilted the blade so she could see into the cell next to her. She was met by black hair and a set of red and purple eyes reflecting in the blade.
"Hello." Aj whispered. Drak looked confused for a second, then realized what Aj was doing.
"Why is that blade so... mirror-like?" Drak reached out and touched the blade, expecting it to leabe a fingerprint, but it stayed clean.
"I'm not sure... It's Thaf's dagger." Aj suddenly realized something, "Where is Thaf..." Drak pointed at the cell across the pathway from hers. She was barely able to make out a figure laying in the center, and watched as his chest rose and fell calmly. "At least he's not dead..." She sighed, worry vanishing from her heart.
"What do you mean... Aj, what happened?" Drak questioned. Aj explained everything; the hut, Dark Thaf trying to kill them, the poisoned arrow, and the men that brought them here.
"So Thaf's been poisoned?" A voice called from across the hall. They realized for the first time that Xepher was awake and listening to their conversation.
"Good morning, Wolf-for-brains." Drak sighed, her smirk reflecting clearly in the blade, "Sleep well, Sleeping Beauty?"
Xepher narrowed his eyes, either from trying to see in the low lighting or angry at Drakonia's sarcasm. "Can it."
Before Drak could make a smart comment about Xepher's lack of words, the stairs echoed with footsteps, heavy and loud. Aj put her blade away and crawled into the darker corner of her cell. Drak and Xepher darted to the back of their cells, to make it seem like they had never spoken or known eachother. "Feeding time!" A deep voice rumbled, almost like a giant. Sand and dirt fell from the ceiling in some places due to the rumbling, but it never caved in. A large figure, easily taller that Thaf (or any of them for that matter), appeared in the doorway leading to the stairs that winded up to the outside world. The light made it hard to make out the figure's dark features, but his hair and eyes were so black, that the shadows in the room seemed like nothing compared to it. He wasn't actually as tall as he looked, he was about Aj's height in reality, but the low light played tricks on their minds. He held four circular disks, each about the size of a tennis racket, and each disk had a glass of water and a piece of steak. As the disks were thrown into the cages, the figure made remarks about each prisoner.
"Ender-brains." He sneered at Drak, who stared back with hate. "Goldie Locks." He laughed at Xepher, who growled. He froze at Aj's cell, but smirked before throwing a disk into her cell. "If it isn't the princess." He scoffed, turning to insult the last prisoner. He stared into the cell, at the unconscious Thafnine. He shot a glace at Aj, then looked back at Thaf, but his gaze ended up on Aj again. He chuckled, then threw the last disk into Thaf's cell. "And a prince to match." He turned and went back to the stairwell. A second shadow was cast down the stairs, waiting for him. The figure gave one final sweep of the room before running back up the stairs. Aj remained frozen as Drak and Xepher crawled forward to get their food.
"Aj, what did the guard mean when he called you a princess?" Xepher asked, munching on his steak. Aj remained frozen in fear. "Aj?"
Thaf stirred in his cell. "What did he mean, Aj?" He turned over, obviously awaking when the stranger came down to leave them some food. "Did you know that guy?"
Aj could feel herself becoming dizzy and light-headed. "This is bad. Really bad..." She whispered, but the echo of the area allowed the others to hear her clearly.
"Why is it bad?" Drak's voice rang from the next cell over. "Did he try to kill you or something?"
"Yes, but he's also committed some... Worse crimes..." She slowly crawled from the darkness, trying to keep her balance and not faint. She managed to grab her glass of water, though she almost spilled it because her hands were shaking so much, and took a sip of it. "That man was Hero, King of the dead Firelords... And my father..."
